Hey Everyone,
Welcome to our last Ballroom News and Notes for 2008! We hope you have found this feature to be helpful and will continue to help us grow in 2009. If there is something we’ve missed in the world of ballroom that you think others should know about, be it a competition, a split, or a new coupling, please, leave us a comment and let us know!
First, we’d like to give you the tour dates for Dancing with the Stars for this week, as well as send a get well soon out for Mark Ballas, who has sustained a groin injury and will be out for a couple of weeks to heal, as per People magazine. Maksim Chmerkovskiy has done a fabulous job with this year’s tour, and has given it a very different look and feel from the past tours, which were choreographed by Louis Van Amstel. If you think you’ve “been there, done that”, believe me, YOU HAVEN’T! Here are this week’s dates:

If you’re going to the tour and plan on doing some video, would you let me know if you get good quality footage of the “Come Fly with Me” number and don’t mind me posting it after you have uploaded to Youtube or the host of your choice? I REALLY want to be able to share that amazing routine, and I didn’t get to record it. Thanks!
Next, we’d like to remind you about the premiere on Sunday, January 4th of “Superstars of Dance”, on NBC. The same production team behind “So You Think You Can Dance” is producing this show, and we’ll be covering it here on the Ballroom Dance Channel’s blog. We’ve only heard about one ballroom couple so far to be participating, but I’m hoping that there will be at least one other, since Russia is involved in this Olympic style dance competition. If you are interested in participating in a live chat for this show, could you leave us a comment and let us know?
We’ve also found out when America’s Ballroom Challenge will start airing on PBS for you. Here are the details, direct from the Ohio Star Ball‘s website:
America’s Ballroom Challenge 2009 on PBS
AMERICA’S BALLROOM CHALLENGE returns for a fourth season with a two hour show on PBS. Shot in high definition at the world’s largest ballroom dancing competition, the OHIO STAR BALL in Columbus, Ohio, AMERICA’S BALLROOM CHALLENGE will first air on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET on PBS. Check your local listing for additional airings after this date.
That should do it for this week. Don’t forget to stop by ITunes and get our new app for IPhone/Ipod touch. For just 99 cents, you can now take our popular salsa lesson on the road, or practice in any room of your home with ease! As with our online salsa lessons, your instructors are the amazing Paul Barris and Yesenia Adame, recently featured on Dancing with the Stars for this same spicy Latin dance. In case you missed it, here’s a clip:
