Dance You Ass Off With Marie!
July 7, 2009 at 4:37 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentHello dance fans, and welcome to Week 2 of Dance Your Ass Off. It’s Disco Week
for our 11 remaining contestants. How will they do with our trip back in time
to the 70’s? And with all of them hitting the gym especially hard this week,
what kind of numbers will we see on the scale?
Marissa announces that in the first week of competition our contestants lost
over 85 pounds collectively. She also mentions that some of the dancers
struggled this week, as we see clips of Alicia having trouble with the harder
technique and choreography compared to last week. She has what she calls a
meltdown…she yells and screams into a pillow, then she empties the CHEAT
cabinet of its contents, throwing all of that junk in the garbage. She says
that food represents her old attitude, including the bad thoughts she had about
herself and the memories of the awful things people said to her about her
weight. Getting rid of it symbolizes her new way of life. She takes the
garbage bag of junk food out to the trash, so none of them are tempted to
retrieve any of it. I commend her for doing what she needed to do and moving
into her new attitude!
Karla is our first dancer this week. She worked really hard last week, and it
paid off when she sat atop the leaderboard. She plans to continue to bring it
and make everyone else work harder just to keep up with her. Karla and Jull
dance to “Funkytown”, and give us a routine filled with classic disco moves and
some really great jumps and rolls.
Mayte says it was good, but Karla needs to work on her lifts and stiff
shoulders. Lisa Ann thinks this routine was not as fluid as last week’s. Danny
calls this the “2nd show blues”, and says they were not connected to each other.
The judges score Karla 6-5-5 for an average of 5.3. Karla gets on the scale and
finds she has lost 4.4 pounds this week for a percentage of 2.66. This gives
her an overall score of 7.96.
Our next to dance is Shayla. She struggles with some of the moves this week,
but knows that she really has to hit it big so she can do even better than last
week. She and Mario dance a sexy routine to “Upside Down”, with wonderful lifts
and spins.
Mayte likes that they were sexy and in sync. Lisa Ann praises the smoothness of
the dance. Danny says that although they need to work on spotting, they nailed
the spirit of the dance. The scores are 7-6-8, for an average of 7. Shayla
lost 2.7 pounds for a percentage of 1.34%. The two numbers combined give her an
overall score of 8.34.
Marissa calls on Miles to dance after Shayla. Miles agrees with the judges that
he can handle more choreography from Michelle, so she makes this routine more
technical. They perform a high energy routine to “Shake Your Groove Thing”,
with excellent disco arms and great attitude.
Mayte loves the performance, but would like Miles to look at Michelle more
often. Lisa Ann likes their fast hustle and energy. Danny is disappointed that
Miles still looked down a lot this week. The judges give him 7-7-6, for an
average of 6.7. Miles has lost 2.9 pounds this week for a percentage of 1.14.
His overall score is 7.84.
Mara comes out next to dance. She is making sure that she stays with a balanced
diet, and says you have to give it your all every time. She believes this is
her time to shine. She and Paul dance to “Super Freak”, complete with fringe
and 70’s afro. It’s fast, fun, and full of hot attitude.
Mayte calls it amazing and sexy. Lisa Ann loves their attitude. Danny thinks
the routine is good but that they hammed it up too much. Mara’s scores are
8-8-6, for an average of 7.3. Mara lost 3.2 pounds for a percentage of 1.25.
This gives her an overall score of 8.55.
Ruben is happy to be dancing next when Marissa calls his name. He thinks that
his dance background will give him an edge, especially since he is old enough to
have lived through the disco era. Ruben and Hilary perform to “Turn The Beat
Around”, doing a lot of really great floor spins and a beautiful flying lift.
Mayte loves the lifts, but would like to see more dancing. Lisa Ann calls Ruben
a good, strong male partner. Danny likes that they came out strong and hard.
The judges’ scores are 7-8-8, for an average of 7.7. Ruben has lost 5.1 pounds
this week, for a percentage of 1.70. His overall score is 9.40.
Pinky is especially thrilled to hear her name called, since she was in the
bottom 2 last week. Pinky knows she really has to push her body and pay
attention to calories this week. She feels a little out of her element with
Disco. She and her partner, Mr. Lucky, perform to “Don’t Stop Till You Get
Enough”. I love the leopard print costume, along with the great footwork and
attitude.
Mayte says it was a clean routine, but they need to take it to the next level.
Lisa Ann loves the moves and the fact that Pinky brought some of her femininity
out. Danny likes that Pinky is showing that she’s not just a Hip-Hop dancer.
Her scores are 6-7-7, for an average of 6.7. Pinky lost 2.6 pounds for a
percentage of 1.41, which makes her overall score 8.11.
Alicia is next, and she loved the amazing feeling she had last week when
performing in front of the audience. She’s worried about the dreaded “2nd week
plateau”, and felt better after she emptied the CHEAT cabinet and got everything
out of her system. Alicia and Italo dance to “Last Dance”, and they have really
great footwork and floor rolls.
Mayte says it was a good performance, but Alicia should work more on her core
and legs. Lisa Ann thinks it was awkward, but she loved the start of the
routine. Danny likes her determination and excitement for the dance. The
judges’ score her 6-4-6, for an average of 5.3. Alicia has lost 2.8 pounds this
week for a percentage of 1.12. Her overall score is 6.42.
Trice is relieved to dance next, knowing she is not in the bottom 2. She would
love to lose 8 pounds this week, and says this is just the beginning for her.
She performs with Jesus to “I Love The Nightlife”, showing off her sexy attitude
and singing along as she dances.
Mayte calls it fantastic, loving the footwork and attitude. Lisa Ann likes it,
but wants the pair to be a little more connected. Danny is happy that Trice
took his advice from the week before and did everything he asked. Her scores
are 8-6-8, for an average of 7.3. Trice lost 2.7 pounds for a percentage of
1.02, giving her an overall score of 8.32.
Marissa calls Tara’s name next, which means that Warren and Brandon are in the
bottom 2. Tara tells us that at Friday’s practice her knee twisted and popped,
so she had to go see Dr. H. He made her stay off of it for the night, but then
gave her the go ahead to dance on the show. Tara and Michael dance a fun and
flirty routine to “Brick House”, showing off their awesome steps and attitude.
Tara’s knee held up well.
Mayte applauds Tara’s determination, but tells her she needs to work on her
toes. Lisa Ann likes that her face told a great story. Danny thinks this
routine was just OK. The judges score her 7-5-5, for an average of 5.7. Tara
has lost 3.8 pounds for a percentage of 1.63, which gives her an overall score
of 7.33.
Warren and Brandon are the bottom 2, and Warren is dancing first. He says he’s
doing more exercise right now than he’s done in the last 29 years. The eating
plan is a challenge for him. Warren and Sarah perform to “Do Ya Think I’m
Sexy”, wihich is funny and full of attitude.
Mayte says it was a good performance, but Warren looked flustered at the end.
Lisa Ann could tell he was having fun, but he lost some steps during the
routine. Danny enjoyed the number, except for the part where Warren blanked out
on the steps. Warren lost 3.1 pounds for a percentage of .90.
Brandon is not happy to be in the bottom 2 for the second week in a row. He has
some difficulty with the disco routine Yesenia teaches him, saying it’s just not
his style. Brandon dons his 70’s afro and they dance to “That’s The Way I Like
It”. I love his perfect 70’s style attitude too!
Mayte thinks they brought it and did a good job. Lisa Ann says it was good but
she’d like to see them bring it more. Danny loves the way they performed all
the way through the program. Brandon has lost 1.5 pounds for a percentage of
.66.
Now the judges reveal the scores for the bottom 2 that had been recorded right
after they each danced. Brandon receives 7-7-8 for an average of 7.3. His
overall score is 7.96, and he is safe. Alicia is in danger of going home,
depending on Warren’s scores. The judges give Warren 5-4-6 for an average of 5.
This makes his overall score 5.90, which puts him below Alicia. She is safe,
and Warren is going home this week.
Marissa announces that next week the contestants will be performing pole dancing
routines, and we see a preview of this. It should be very interesting! Tune in
next week, and make sure you dance YOUR a** off this week…good night
everybody!
